For Individuals

For many clients, mediation is a helpful way to resolve disputes. However, mediators will not provide legal advice. At Clifton Ingram, although we do not provide mediation services, we do fully support mediation as an effective means of dispute resolution, and are able to provide legal support during that process, working directly with trusted mediators.

If Court proceedings are unavoidable, such as over high-risk assets such as property or arrangements for children, you are first required to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting “MIAM” (although you may be exempt from a MIAM if you are the victim of domestic violence or your case involves bankruptcy).

We will arrange this meeting for you, during which the mediator will assess if mediation can effectively help you to reach an agreement. Couples are invited to then find out more about mediation and ask any questions that they may have for the mediator.

Individuals can attend the “MIAM” alone or with their partner, at their discretion. If you meet the mediator alone, then they will ask if they may contact the other party. If the other party declines their mediation services then the process will end there.

Alternatively, if they accept, then we will facilitate and help organise your experience with the out-of-house mediators that we trust entirely.
